Let us learn some facts about Father's Day.
Father's Day is celebrated in Honor of Fathers and for their Fatherhood. Anna Jarvis promoted Mother's day worldwide. But the idea of celebrating father's day emerged after the day '5th July 1908'. The person who first came up with this idea was Grace Golden Clayton.
Grace Golden Clayton was mourning the loss of her father in a church. In December 1907,361 men, of which 250 were fathers, died in a mining disaster, leaving many children fatherless. Her father too died in that disaster. She suggested to her pastor to honor all those fathers. But unfortunately, her event went unrecognized as it was overshadowed by two other events.
Then finally event got Worldwide recognition On June 19th, 1910 as Fathers day by the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd
Sonora Smart Dodd's Father was a civil war veteran and a single parent who raised his six children. Once when Sonora was listening to a sermon in her church about the mother's day Promotion by Anna Jarvis, she got an idea and suggested it to the pastor of the church that there should be a holiday for fathers in their honor as on mother's day. Initially, she proposed father's day to be on 5th June as it was her father's birthday but the Pastors deferred the celebration to the third Sunday of June due to lack of time for preparation.
So from then, Father's day is celebrated on 3rd Sunday of June every year.
