we encounter simplification problems in bank exam. This simplification problems also include questions like 20% of 180 and other such problems.
Here 20% of 180 seems easy but it may take time if done with the traditional method of finding out percentage.
Knowing reciprocal of percentage saves our lot more time. In most of the bank exams we have 1 or maximum 1 hour and 30 minutes to solve approx 100 question, so we get approx. 45 sec to solve each question.
so in 45 seconds, we need to simplification questions which may include addition, subtraction, multiplication, percentage anything . here you can understand the value of time and so remembering reciprocals make solving of question quick.
E.G. consider: 25% of 40 + 4% of 50
here instead of calculating 25 % of 40 as 25*40 /100-->10, we use reciprocal of 25% ie 1/4
1 * 40 + 1 * 50
4 25
= 10+2 = 12
so here is the trick to remember reciprocals
1 =100% , 2/2 , 3/3 , 4/4 ........ all are 100%
for base 2
1/2 => 1/2 =100/2 = 50%
3/2 => 3 (1/2) = 3 * 50% =150 %
thus if the percentage is multiple of 50 ie 50 , 150 , 250 , 350 .... are having a base as 2 and numerator are varying depending on value .
values : 100, 200 , 300 are also multiple of 50 but they can be further reduced eg 400 -> 8/2 -> 4 .
for base 3
1/3=> 100/3 = 33.33%
2/3=> 2(1/3) = 2 *(33.33) = 66.66 %
4/3 => 4(1/3)= 4* 33.33 = 133.33 %
5/3=>5(1/3)= 5* 33.33 = 166.66%
so if digits after decimal are recurring and are 33 or 66 for example in 2/3 we have 66.66
, so after the decimal, we have 66 or in 4/3 we have 133.33, so after decimal digits are 33 . thus from this conclusion obtained is if the term is having a recurrence of 33 or 66 than the base is 3
for base 4
1/4=100/4=25%
2/4=2(1/4)=2 *25 =50%
3/4= 3(1/4)=3*25=75%
so if term is multiple of 25 ie 25,50, 75, 100, 125 than the base is always 4 .
for base 5
1/5=100/5 =20%
2/5=2(1/5)=2*20=40%
3/5=3(1/5)=3*20=60%
Thus if the term is multiple of 20 ie 20, 40,60 , ....... we have the base as 5
